Chief Minister’s Comphrehensive Health Insurance CMCHIS Scheme to Thalassaemia Patients
Masonic Medical Centre for Children is empanelled under Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme to provide treatment to Thalassaemia children with effect from 7.10.2015. We have allotted five beds with all advanced facilities and staff for blood transfusion to Thalassaemia children. Dr. Revathi Raj, Consultant Haematologist from Apollo Hospitals, Chennai regularly visits our hospital to evaluate and monitor the children with Haemolytic anaemia.
Thalassaemia is one of the common Haemolytic disease where Haemoglobin drops drastically and the child becomes anemic and need of blood transfusion every month once the Hemoglobin drops to 9 grams. Because of the regular and recurrent transfusion the iron get deposited in almost all the organs of the body and require regular iron chelators to remove the iron.
We started Thalssaemia clinic in the year 2013 under the guidance of Dr. Revathi Raj, Consultant Haematologist, Apollo Hospitals, Chennai. Nearly 70 children have registered and treated with blood transfusion and iron chelators. The Thalassaemia children are given the best care by our Consultant Paediatric Haematologists, Paediatricians and Nursing Staff.
We have received the “Award of Appreciation” from the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Tamilnadu in admiration of our best performance in providing regular blood transfusion and iron chelators to the Thalassaemia children under Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme in a function held at Chennai on 19.11.2019.
